Summer is finally here! ☀️

The sun is shining, restrictions are lifting and summer is finally upon us. Come have a look at what we've been up to this June.

We've been busy with our weekly art sessions over at our South building. Our guys have been busy making nature wind chimes out of items we could find around us. We've also begun some space themed art, the first step being to paper mache ballons to make our planets.

Although some of us got a little bit messier than others during our art sessions.

We've also been busy cooking and practicing our life skills. Recently we've been exploring how we can incorporate healthier choices in all our cooking including our baking. It's been fun exploring different options and understanding how small changes can make a difference without compromising on taste.

Our weekly BoomChikkaBoom sessions have continued with new and exciting themes that have had us on our feet, such as Eurovision, Ibiza Boat Party and an ABBA themed day. Some would say we were the dancing queens!

Of course it hasn't all been activities indoors, as we said before the sun is out and we've been keen to make the most of it.

Recently a few of our students have been attending a weekly Forest School session based at Otley Chevin. We've had fun doing various activities and exploring the Chevin. We've been pond fishing, making dens, building rope swings and even making fires from scratch with flint and steel to roast our marshmallows and sausages on. It's been lots of fun and all our students have enjoyed their weekly visits.

At our West site we're lucky enough to be next to the Leeds to Liverpool canal, meaning we are able to get our for regular canal walks and enjoy the sun, exploring the nature around us and all the colours and animals summer has to offer.

We've also made the most of our outdoor space, holding activities such as our music therapy sessions out in our garden area.

We've made the most of our Future Horizons buses and even gone to visit parks and nature trails further afield.

We of course had to visit our Therapy pony "Sago" at Hope Pastures.

We've even had chance to visit a park and finally get back on the equipment. It's been lots of fun!

At Future Horizons we like to end the week with a fish and chips Friday. One week this month we thought we would change it up a little and have our fish and chips on the seaside. All our guys had a great day out, enjoying their fish and chips in Bridlington and exploring the seaside town...

...and of course no seaside trip would be complete without an icecream.

We hope to have just as much fun if not more over the next few months, with access to rebound and hydrotherapy restarting, our weekly BoomChikkaBoom sessions and of course more fun trips out are already planned.
